Description: This is a breakout board for the SC16IS750, a handy chip used to convert I2C or SPI serial signals to a single-channel, high-performance UART. As an application example: we use this chip on ourWiFly Shield to allow an Arduino to communicate with the WiFly RN-131G module - which is normally controlled via a UART - using an SPI interface. This allows for greater communication speeds and frees up the Arduino’s UART for other purposes.

Power applied to the ‘VIN’ pin is sent through a 3.3V LDO regulator before powering the IC. The input pins of the SC16IS750 are 5.5V tolerant, so this board should work with both 3.3V and 5V controllers. Also populated on the board is a 14.7456MHz crystal, to serve as a clock input to the chip, and other supporting components.

This board breaks out all pins of the SC16IS750 to two breadboard friendly 11-pin, 0.1" pitch headers.

This is a redesigned CP2102 module, fully compatible with arduino pro mini, why? because all the pins are same as our FTDI basic board, and most important is the DTR pin enabled as FTDI, so you can directly upload sketch with this one.

So what is the advantage? The price is almost only one third of the FTDI basic. Meanwhile, all the pins of CP2102 are brought out, so you can free to use them all for other cases.

FTDI Cable 5V VCC-3.3V I/O

Description: The FTDI cable is a USB to Serial (TTL level) converter which allows for a simple way to connect TTL interface devices to USB. The VCC pins of this FTDI cable are configured to operate at 5V with 3.3V I/O.

The FTDI cable is designed around an FT232RQ, which is housed in a USB A connector. The other side of the cable is terminated with a 0.1" pitch, 6-pin connector with the following pinout: RTS, RX, TX, 5V, CTS, GND (RTS is the green cable and GND is black).

This cable has almost the same pinout and functionality as our FTDI Basic Breakout board; you can use it to program your Arduino ProPro Mini and Lilypad, etc. For use with those boards, align the black and green wires of the FTDI cable with the ‘BLK’ and ‘GRN’ labels on the PCB. The difference between this cable and the FTDI Basic Breakout is the cable has a 5V Vcc where as the breakout has a 3.3V Vcc. You will still be able to program an Aruidno Pro, Pro Mini, Lilypad, etc. The 5V Vcc supply will not damage these Arduino circuit boards.

Originally, the cable was designed to have 3.3V VCC, however something was lost in translation between SparkFun and our supplier and we got stuck with a whole bunch of FTDI cables that have a slight mix up in wiring. These have 5V VCC, and 3.3V I/O. The 5V Vcc output shouldn’t be a problem unless this cable is being used to power a sensitive circuit such as a sensor.

There are pros and cons to the FTDI Cable vs the FTDI Basic. The FTDI Basic has great LED indicators, but requires a Mini-B cable. The FTDI Cable is well protected against the elements, but is large and cannot be embedded into a project as easily. The FTDI Basic uses DTR to cause a hardware reset where the FTDI cable uses the RTS signal.

f you've ever tried to connect a 3.3V device to a 5V system, you know what a challenge it can be. The SparkFun logic level converter is a small device that safely steps down 5V signals to 3.3V and steps up 3.3V to 5V.

This level converter also works with 2.8V and 1.8V devices. Each level converter has the capability of converting 4 pins on the high side to 4 pins on the low side. Two inputs and two outputs are provided for each side.

Bread board friendly! Can be used with normal serial, I2C, SPI, and any other digital signal. Does not work with an analog signal.
The level converter is very easy to use. The board needs to be powered from the two voltages sources (high voltage and low voltage) that your system is using. High voltage (5V for example) to the 'HV' pin, low voltage (2.8V for example) to 'LV', and ground from the system to the 'GND' pin.
Pins are labeled as Inputs and Outputs. These are relative to the board. A digital one going into the RXI pin on the 5V side will show up on the RXO pin on the 3.3V side as 3.3V. A digital one going into the TXI pin on the 3.3V side will show up on the TXO pin on the 5V side as 5V.
